A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communicators have welcomed the party’s publication of the ballot for its upcoming Congress to elect a Presidential Candidate for the 2020 election.
They said the milestone inched the party closer to electing Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, as flagbearer.Led by Clement Galle, a member of the NDC’s Communication Team in the Wenchi Constituency of the Brong Ahafo region, and James Dagaba, a Deputy Communications Officer, the group held a News conference in Accra to hit home their point.
“We are absolutely delighted that the build up towards the Congress is now a freewheeling one, having been able as a party to remove all the impediments in our way, including; the court suit that placed an injunction on the Congress.
“Our delight is even more fuelled by the fact that the overall progress means we are gaining in on the day when we will elect Mr Bagbin as the Flagbearer of our beloved party for 2020,” Mr. Clement Galle said.According to him, the NDC was poised on electing the Nadowli-Kaleo MP, whose track record had no loopholes that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) could use to detract and paint him black to voters.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the media, it is not for nothing that the NPP themselves have openly begged for the NDC not to elect Bagbin, a man who has groomed both President Akufo-Addo and former President Mahama.
“But we want the NPP to know beforehand that the NDC will not make that mistake; we are going to elect Mr Bagbin for 2020 so that Ghanaians will have the clearest alternative to choose.
On his part, James Dabaga said Mr Bagbin’s position on the ballot was fateful and strategic. “Fate itself has placed the man under your nose so that you can easily just thumbprint against his name. We the delegates have no excuse to miss Bagbin on the number one position on the ballot,” he said.
Mr. Dabaga said the massive achievements in Ghana’s Health sector attributed to former President Mahama were mostly the achievements of Mr Bagbin who used his tenure as Health Minister to programme them.
“Hon. Bagbin was the brain behind the CHPS Compound idea, he was the brain behind the Ridge Hospital, which he proposed to late former President Mills, and so on and so forth,” Mr. James Dabaga said.
