Obore Gariba Yankorsor II, Paramount chief of the Bassare Traditional Council has commended government for capturing the Yendi-Tatale road in the 2019 National Budget for construction.
The move, he said would not only facilitate the movement of goods and foodstuff from the area to the marketing centres, but would also serve as the shortest alternative road for travellers enroute to Togo, Benin and Nigeria.
Obore Yankorsor who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra said: “It is gratifying to hear that our road has been captured in the National Budget and I want to commend the government for the move.”
He said the construction of the road would also attract more Investors into the area to venture into the One District, One factory policy as most of them were scared by the poor infrastructure of the area.
The 80-Kilometre Yendi-Tatale road has not seen any major construction in so many decades.
While every government in the fourth Republic had given promises and suggested packages for the construction of the road, nothing concrete had been done over the years.“It was therefore refreshing and good news for the Chiefs and people, when Mr Ken Ofori Atta, Finance Minister announced that it was one of the roads to be constructed in the Northern Region.”
He said the people of the area were ready to offer any assistance that would lead to the execution of work on the road and called on all stakeholders to play their roles responsibly to ensure the smooth construction of the road.
Obore Yankorsor said the road was an ECOWAS route as most travellers to Togo, Benin and Nigeria would in the coming years prefer it as the shortest alternative if constructed. The area apart from being closer to Togo, was also an agricultural hub as food crops such as; Maize, Yam, Guinea-corn, Millet, Cassava, Beans and groundnuts were produced in large quantities.
