The mediation committee resolved that, the Abudu Royal Family performs the funeral of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV, beginning December 14 to 28, 2018; whiles the funeral of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II be performed on January 04 to 18, 2019.

 A statement issued in Tamale and read at a press conference, the two funeral rites of the late two kings is to be performed at the old Gbewaa Palace in Yendi in the Northern Region.

 Mr Mahama Sintaro, a Convener of the statement, appealed to both Abudu and Andani Royal Gates to remain resolute whiles focusing on the singular objective of organizing the funeral of the late Yaa-Naa with pride and harmony to mark the occasion of a historical moment.

He said, “We must remain vigilant against hostile and aggressive tendencies seeking to undermine this momentous opportunity for peace and development”.

“We call on the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC), the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) to facilitate the promotion of peace, and tolerance among our people,” he added.

“The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), religious leaders and opinion leaders must ignore machinations by chieftaincy contractors whose ‘evil’ plots marred previous attempts to resolve the issues,” he said.

 “We urge creativity, tolerance and tact on the part of elders from both families with responsibility for the performance of these funerals, which will bring lasting peace to Dagbon,” he said.

The statement said, “We are resolute in our commitment to support the process, and to stand up against anybody seeking to thwart this process. Dagbon deserves peace, cultural harmony and a healthy continuity of the time-tested traditional system of administration”.

 Mr Mahama expressed gratitude to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Nayiri Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahama Sheriga, the King of the Maprugu Traditional Council and the Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa, King of the Gonja Traditional Council for their level of wisdom, diplomacy as well as patience for the mediations leading to the peaceful resolution of the problem.

 He appealed to Religious leaders to preach peace, tolerance and understanding among the youth, whiles lauding government’s commitment at ensuring lasting peace in the historical influential descendants of Naa Gbewaa.
