In order to bring sanity, law and good governance in the Municipality, the 43-Member Yendi Municipal Assembly at its ordinary meeting in Yendi of Northern Region passed 23 by-laws of the Assembly.
The 67 page booklet contains all the 23 of the Assembly’s By-laws.
The 18-member By-law Review Committee had Alhaji Hammed Abubakari, Municipal Chief Executive, as Chairman, Mr Gaspard Dery, Municipal Coordinating Director as Vice-chairman, Mr Peter Tetteh, Municipal Planning Officer as Secretary and Mr Ibrahim Abu Zolge Presiding member.
The By-laws are on cemeteries, unauthorised structures, abatement of Nuisance, Billboards and signboards, control of charcoal burning, sanitation, restaurant and eating houses, clubs and bars, control of tree growth, and control of cattle in the Municipality.
The rest are; control of Hawkers and dogs in the Municipality.
The by-laws, would be applied within the Municipal) Assembly’s geographical territorial jurisdiction.
Some Assembly Members, however called for the withdrawal of by-laws on cemeteries and witchcraft as it was Traditional Authorities and not the Yendi Municipal Assembly that was responsible for the collection of cemetery fees.
Alhaji Hammed Abubakari Yussuf Yendi Municipal Chief Executive indicated that an Assembly without by-laws governing its operations was a lawless one and said the Assembly’s by-laws came into fruition due to adequate consultations through several meetings and workshops they convened.
He announced that the Assembly members studied the draft document for the purpose of sanity, peace and development.
Mr Ibrahim Abu Zolge, presiding member of the Assembly said the approval of the By-laws meant that the assembly members had studied the document and had no objection to it and appealed to them to educate their electorate on the by-laws subsequently.
