Mr Albert Akomaning, Akim Oda District Cocoa Officer said the setting up of the Capitation Grant by the government should spur farmers on to send their children to school.
He said many avenues, including the COCOBOD Scholarship, were opened to farmers to enable them to give their children formal education for their future prosperity.
Mr Akomaning was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region on Sunday.
He said he was disturbed about the quality of cocoa beans produced by some farmers in the area and that there was the need to thoroughly dry and ferment the beans to ensure quality.
"For the country to continue to sell its cocoa beans at a premium there is the urgent need for the farmers to thoroughly dry the beans so as to achieve the needed quality," he stated.
Mr Akomaning said the cocoa farmers must prune the branches of tress that disturbed the cocoa tree and clear unwanted trees alongside the spraying.
He advised them to do this during the rainy season to sustain the trees, because when done in summer, it was certain that the trees would die.
Mr Akomaning said it was safer to plug any pod infected with "Anonom", the black pod disease, in the course of working on their farms.
