The District Chief Executive for Gomoa East, Mr. Mc Jewels Annan, has called on developed countries to honour the policy guiding globalization.
Mr. Annan said the policy required a level field in agriculture and trade to enhance the conditions of developing countries.
Addressing the 24th National and the first District Farmers Day at Gomoa Akotsi near Awutu Bereku on Friday, the DCE pointed out that the developed countries were using their economies to sabotage the policy.
"Whilst they subsidized heavily the cost of agricultural inputs, they impress upon the developing countries not to do so, whilst they determine prices for their products exported to the developing countries, they want to fix prices for goods exported from the developing countries".
Mr. Annan noted that the injustice being meted out to developing countries was a drawback on their economies and they would continue to be hewers of wood and drawers of water if the trend was not reversed.
Mrs. Evelyn Opare, Gomoa District Director of Agriculture called on farmers to count themselves lucky for the district being selected among the 23 to benefit from the Millennium challenge Accounts (MCA) a package meant for agricultural development.
She said under the programme, five or more dams would be constructed in each of the beneficiary districts for irrigation of farm lands.
Mrs. Opare advised the farmers to form farmer based organizations which was the fundamental requirement to qualify them to access to MCA.
Twenty farmers and fishermen were awarded with prizes for excelling in their various fields of work.
Mr. Stephen Amehere, an Officer at the District Directorate of Education in-charge of Evaluation and Monitoring was adjudged the best farmers.
