The Northern Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has added its voice to the call for peace during and after the December general election.
The Presbytery expressed concern about the violence some political parties are perpetrating and said no effort should be spared to ensure that the country remained united after the poll.
The Rev Dr. Martin Bugri Nabor, Chairperson of the Presbytery, said at a press conference in Tamale on Wednesday, "We wish Ghana peace because peace is the bedrock of every development and happy living."
The Northern Presbytery is one of the 14 presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and it operates in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions.
Rev. Dr Nabor said the Northern Presbytery was not only looking forward to total peace in the country after the December 7 poll but also positive collaboration among all the political parties to build a prosperous Ghana.
He said arrangements had been made for its members to worship on December 6 or attend church service on December 07 and close before or by 1000 hours as local situations would dictate in order to have ample time to vote.
"Preachers in all our local congregations have been directed to preach peace and pray for peace," he said.
Rev. Nabor Dr appealed to churches to be vanguards of peace and urged the Electoral Commission to conduct the poll in such a manner that both winners and losers would gracefully accept the outcome.
He also called on the media to play a supportive role to enhance peace during and after the election.
