The chiefs and elders of Dome in the Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District of the Eastern Region, on Wednesday appealed to the Minister of The Interior and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to establish a police station at Dome.
Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dome near Kuano, Baffour Agyeman and Nana Appiah Bediako, Odikro and Mankrado of Dome respectively, noted with concern the lack of police station within the geographical location of the Dome community and its environs.
According to them, apart from Suhum and Asamankese, there was no police station on that stretch of the road, and that this made it difficult for citizens to help combat crime in the area.
Baffour Agyeman said arrangement for the establishment of a rural bank was complete, for which a complementary demand for a police station was paramount.
Nana Appiah led the GNA to inspect a structure for the defunct Cocoa Services Division with a 1.5-acre parcel of land, which was abandoned over 20 years ago which, according to him, the community would rehabilitate and offer for the police station/post.
The building consisted of four big rooms for offices, attached living quarters of three rooms for residential accommodation, a storeroom, four seater toilet rooms and a "14 feet by 13 feet" concrete water reservoir.
Nana Emmanuel Kofi Osafo, Dwantuahene of Dome stated that Dome had a population of about 600 people who were basically cocoa and cash crop farmers, adding that, the police station was dear to their heart and if established, it could benefit more than nine communities in the area.
Nana Osafo expressed the wished that the IGP would appreciate their efforts and readiness to welcome any police officials posted to the area.
He assured the police of the people's co-operation.
