Teachers at the Volta River Authority Junior High School (VRAJHS) have called on the Minister of Education to come to their aid.
in a transfer saga that has hit their school.
The teachers have also appealed to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Ghana National Association of Teachers and National Association of Graduate Teachers to come to their aid.
They said the timing of the transfers, which were without grant and travel and transport allowance and were being carried out by the District Education Directorate was inappropriate.
A statement signed by Mr Emmanuel Abochie, spokesperson for the affected teachers, said they were not against the transfers but were against the timing since many of them had just returned from universities and would need money to pay school fees for next academic year.
The statement said looking at the current economic conditions in the country coupled with costs of transportation and rent, the teachers could not afford the extra financial burden that the transfers would impose on them.
It argued that since it was not the teachers who applied for the transfers, it was only proper that the District Directorate paid their transfer grants and travel and transport allowances for their relocation.
