The Accra-North-East MTTU Divisional Police Command has impounded 60 motorbikes with questionable or improper documentations.
Speaking to the GNA, the MTTU Commander Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. James Owusu-Mensah explained that the impounded bikes were apprehended because they were unlicensed, uninsured or having fake or faded number plates.
Some riders were without crash helmets and overloading the bike with two pillion riders instead of one pillion rider.
Mr. Owusu-Mensah added that, they were going to collaborate with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to ascertain the authenticity of their number plates and documents since most the riders normally fix fake number plates or unused accident vehicle number plates and sometimes unserviceable and abandoned tractor number plates.
Owners of the bikes who have genuine documents would have their bikes returned to them.
Regarding the earlier exercise conducted on trotro buses a week ago, he said about 30 drivers were fined a total amount of GH¢2,500 and warrants were issued by the Madina Magistrates' court for the arrest of six drivers who failed to turn up at the court.
