The First Lady and President of the Lordina Foundation, Lordina Mahama, has encouraged Ghanaians, especially those with chronic non-communicable diseases to register with the Ghana Medical Trust, also known as MahamaCares.
She said this new healthcare programme introduced by the President would take care of all the health needs of persons suffering from non-communicable diseases that were currently not covered by the NHIS.
The primary health care programme, which the government is soon to launch, will also provide preventive care at the community level for individuals, as well as family members.
The First Lady was speaking at the third free health screening, consultation and medication exercise for the Assemblies of God Retired Ministers and Spouses Association in the Greater Accra Region held at the Ringway branch of the Assemblies of God Church in Accra last Friday.
The quarterly programme was initiated by the First Lady when she was invited as a special guest of honour at a programme organised by the church on September 1, 2024 and during the event, she made a heartfelt pledge to provide free quarterly health screening and medication for all members of the association through the Lordina Foundation.
It was in fulfilment of this pledge that the First Lady organised the first free health screening towards impacting the health and well-being of the retired ministers of the church and their spouses in November last year.
Seasoned medical professionals from the 37 Military hospital, the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), among others were deployed for the screening exercise which include urologists, gynaecologists, dietitians, opticians and general practitioners, while beneficiaries received services in laboratory tests for blood sugar levels, Hepatitis B, cancers and prostate health.
Addressing the retirees, Mrs Mahama said the organisation of the third edition of the exercise followed the successful completion of the first and second editions of the exercise held in November 2024 last year and March 2025, respectively.
She said the free health screening exercise was an opportunity for the retirees to access quality health care and receive professional medical advice that will help them maintain good health and vitality at all times, adding that these dedicated experts have years of experience and are fully committed to ensuring you receive the best possible care.
The First Lady asserted that this health screening was one of many ways the Lordina foundation aims to give back to society and support those who have dedicated their lives to serving others and encourage the participants to take full advantage of the free screening and consultation services.
According to her, focusing on the elderly, children, women and other vulnerable groups is the top priority of her foundation, and this health screening is one of many ways she aims to give back to society and support those who have dedicated their lives to serving others.
She expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the incredible medical team for their hard work, dedication and support throughout this journey and also to Rev. Benjamin Tete, the head Pastor of the Ringway Gospel Centre, Assemblies of God, for graciously offering this venue each quarter for our health clinics every time.
She also appreciated Reverend Michael Ayensu and Reverend Nelson Arwintia, the Assemblies of God regional Superintendents overseeing Accra West and East, respectively, for their leadership and guidance in this all-important exercise.
Reverend Dr Harry Insaidoo, the President of the association, said, “To us, it was one of the biggest and the most exciting moments for us, as every three months, the doctors will thoroughly examine you and thereafter they will give you medication.
Not only that, they will also offer pieces of advice on how to live a good and healthy life”.
