The Most Reverend Mathew Kwasi Gyamfi, the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishop Conference has inaugurated a-six-unit classroom block for the Mantukwa Incarnate Word Preparatory School of the Sunyani Catholic Diocese.
The Hamburg-based foundations, the Peter Krämer Foundation in cooperation with the Block Foundation invested around €140,000 for the construction of the fully equipped classroom block.
Attached to the facility, executed by the Madamfo Ghana Construction Company are teachers’ room, stores, computer lab, modern sanitary facilities for boys, girls, and staff as well as a mechanized water supply for the 250 school children.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Mantukwa in the Sunyani West Municipality, Mt Rev Gyamfi also the Catholic Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese thanked the foundations facility and commended the contractors for the excellent work.
He also expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of Mantukwa, a farming community, for their support and cooperation, explaining that the diocese acquired the land many years ago.
“In fact, we are equally grateful to the Directors of the respective Foundations who accepted our plea and granted the funds for the construction of this magnificent and functional school block” he stated, saying the facility would improve children’s access to quality ducation.
“The sorry fate of the children compelled me to convert the uncompleted Priest house into a kindergarten and classrooms for the children, as we continued searching for benefactors to come to our aid,” the Catholic Bishop stated.
He said for efficient management and to provide quality integral education for the children, the diocese had entrusted the school to the “Nuns of the Incarnate Word Sisters, whose Novitiate and convent share a common boundary with the school”.
They ensure that all children in the community attend school irrespective of their social, ethnic, religious, and economic background.
“Now the children who are crammed in the priest house will move into and use these spacious classrooms and their accessories designed for the comfort of the children,” Mt Rev Gyamfi stated.
“It’s easy to choose an international organization, make a transfer, and support a project from afar,”
Mr Maximilian Hille, Managing Director of the Block Foundation stated, and added that “but we wanted more: we wanted to make sure the project had a long-term impact, made a real difference, and reached the people who truly need it”.
Mr Christian Kraemer, the Chairman of the Peter Kraemer Foundation stated that “this project shows what’s possible when philanthropic commitment is combined with care, perseverance, and a strong focus on sustainability”.
Mr Tilo Braune, the Managing Director of the Kraemer Foundation and Former State Secretary added that “we didn’t just want to help – we wanted to take responsibility and with this school project, we’ve done just that”.
Earlier in a welcoming address, Rev Sister Janet Ayine, the Headmistress of the School said the facility stood as a powerful testament to the shared vision and unwavering dedication of the Sunyani Catholic Diocese to promote quality education.
“The vision that underpins the establishment of this school is to provide a holistic education for learners grounded in the religious values of the Catholic Church and to provide an exciting learning environment where learning is challenging and joyful, desired by teachers and learners together,” she stated.
Rev Sis Ayine added that “the new building is far more than just bricks and mortar, but it embodies our deep commitment to providing our students with a safe, conducive, and inspiring learning environment”.
