The Yendi Municipal Assembly Publicity Committee on COVID 19 has intensified its public education on the coronavirus pandemic in the Yendi Municipality of Northern Region.
The 10-member committee include; Mr. Gaspard Dery, the Yendi Municipal coordinating Director, Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan Iddi Yendi Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education, Mr. Abdul Kahman Inusah Acting Municipal Information Officer, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Ibrahim, Incharge of Human Resource of Yendi Ghana Education Service ,Mr. Alhassan Abdul Nasir Taribabu of Yendi Muslim Council.
The rest are; Mr. Mbo Mohammed of Yendi Municipal Environmental Health Unit, Mr. Hussein Abdul Karim, Presiding Member of Yendi Municipal Assembly, Mr. Edward Dawuni of Ghana News Agency.
Some of the communities covered include; Kulkpeni, Kpalisugu Nayili, Kamul yili, Jagundo, Montodo, Kpaligagbani, Gnani, Kpanjanba, Adibo, Zugu, Nakpachie, Lingule, Kamshegu Kpansi, Zokorli, Yendi Markets among others.
Addressing some of the market women and storekeepers in Yendi Township, Alhaji Hammed Abubakari Yussuf the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive called on the people of Yendi to adhere to the directives of the president on the COVID 19 as coronavirus had to cure.
He also advised them to avoid close contact with people coughing and sneezing, and wash their hands under running water with soap, use hand sanitizers, use of nose mask, adhere to social distancing, avoid performing outdoorings, funerals, attending church services and group praying in mosques.
Alhaji Yussif, who is also the chairman of the Yendi Municipal Public Education Health committee, said apart from the Yendi Publicity committee, the Assembly also established enforcement Committee, Identification of social gathering Committee to ensure that the public was educated on the COVID 19 pandemic.
Alhaji Suleman Alhassan Idddi the leader of the Publicity Committee indicated that the committee members were using the Yendi Municipal Health Directorate publicity pick- up to carry out the public education in the communities of the municipality.
He said throughout the programme,they realised most communities lack edthe veronica buckets, nose mask,s and appealed to the Assembly and Ghana Health Service to assist them with the items.
He said it was important all the CHPS Compounds were provided with the veronica buckets and commended the Pastors, Priests, Imams for ensuring that their members did not attend churches and Mosques.
He said the problem was on the social distancing in some of the suburbs in the area and called on the public to avoid gathering to avoid infections.
He called on the traders travelling to the markets in the Municipality to ensure that the drivers do not overload them in their vehicles and gave the assurance that they would cover every community of the Municipality.
The Assembly distributed large quantity of hand sanitizes to some of the traders and storekeepers in the Municipality during the exercises.
