Behind a secrete camera was a man who had managed to lure an innocent girl into his chamber. One may think they entered there to have spiritual counselling but it was the otherwise.

 As the clock tick and tock, it gave birth to a new embarrassing video and the content of the video displayed the girl, who was spotted earlier on with the man who lured her into his room and managed to have sexual bout with her. The video spread like a bush fire on social media platforms. Society tauted and humiliated the girl who wasn't even willing to display her underwear in public. Similar story was told of another girl who was intoxicated by lustful text messages and had to send a nude picture or video to make her so called lover feel her presence.

The society always forget about persons who record and leak innocent people's videos to the general public. In July 2016, one Benedicta Yeboah was reported to have committed suicide after her sex tape was leaked on the internet by her boyfriend. Very tragic, however, we hypocritically crucify, especially the females and paint them in a way as if they are not humans after seeing any leaked sex tapes or nude images.

Due to this injustice, Entamoty Media Ltd in partnership with other non-governmental organization is launching an initiative against revenge Porn dubbed END REVENGE PORN IN GHANA NOW! Our motive is to create awareness and get law makers to criminalize Revenge porn.

We are starting a campaign against revenge porn to protect ladies who fall victim of sex tapes and nude videos; the society don't blame and punish the perpetrators who leak those videos but attack the ones who have become victims; they end up being psychologically and emotionally abused; these victims go through a lot and some even commit suicide. Meanwhile the very ones who caused these atrocities are left untouched!

WHAT IS REVENGE PORN

As one may ask, the meaning of the term REVENGE PORN is revealing of sexually explicit images or videos of a person posted on the Internet, typically by a former sexual partner, without the consent of the subject and in order to cause them distress or embarrassment.

In our case however, it refers to all sexually explicit videos and images of a person by former partner, old friend, hacker, blackmailer or whoever for whatever motive.

 

WHY THIS CAMPAIGN

This campaign by Entamoty Media Ltd is here as a result of the myriads of nonconsensual

pornography (Sex tapes, leaked nude videos) on social media and adult websites in our country.

 

OBJECTIVES

# Criminalizing of Revenge Porn -  the campaign is to arrest the attention of law makers to enact clear laws to punish perpetrators of leaked nude images and videos for the purpose of vengeance, blackmail or fun; surely to deter others.

#Justice and Protection for Victims: women and (men) who fall victims of Revenge Porn must be protected instead of being humiliated. They have the right to seek for justice; and must be provided all the psychological assistance needed to overcome the trauma.

# Public Education - Most importantly, we want to educate the general public about the real issues of sex tapes which are normally not dealt with. The point of view, who to blame, what should be done, it could be you!

#Clamping Down Leaked Websites - Most adult websites that spread such nonconsensual pornography must be shut down to reduce the menace; they don't benefit us a society in any way.

We shall use very powerful tools to carry our messages across.

#Voices of influential people in our society - we shall seek the support of the cream of our society who understand the need and the urgency of this campaign to add their voices.

#Stories of Victims

As part of our public outreach, we will be using victims and their families to tell their stories and share their dreadful experience to let everyone have a feel of the soles of their feet; sometimes is just good to hear it from the horse's own mouth.

#Partnership with Other organizations - we shall collaborate with reputable non-governmental organizations and other institutions who will gladly throw their weight behind us to support this initiative.

#Short videos - short videos of victims and influencers will be made by our production team for the purpose of telecasting to the public.

#Articles on Websites, Blogs and Newspapers: series of Articles will be posted on several blogs and newspapers to sensitize readers about the campaign.

#Social Media Trends and Hashtags - our team which are mainly youth will rally with common hashtags on all platforms such us (#EndRevengePornNow #CriminalizeRevengePorn #ProtectVictims ) and many others to carry more uniform messages to the general public. This is very important since the social media is one of the main channels for nonconsensual pornography.

CONCLUSION

Every day at least 3 nonconsensual sexually explicit videos are posted on social media in Ghana. There are over 20 adult websites in Ghana that post leaked sex videos and nudes of people without their knowledge. This is just part of the proofs of what so many victims are going through.
