In a spectacular celebration of Ghanaian music, Brother Ishmael, a popular gospel singer and songwriter based in the United States, has been crowned the New Artiste of the Year at this year’s Ghana Music Awards, US.
The awards ceremony held at ACX1 Studios in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday, August 16 recognises the exceptional contribution of Ghanaian artistes, both in Ghana and globally.
Brother Ishmael, born Ishmael Mintah, is the founder of Greatest Shepherd Production, a record label that has been instrumental in promoting gospel music worldwide.
His soul-stirring worship songs and inspirational melodies have touched the hearts of many, spreading a powerful message of faith and hope.
Some of his songs are God is Spirit, The Presence, Nyame Anuonyam, Adom Nyame and Know Jesus.
The awards ceremony, now in its seventh edition, honored outstanding Ghanaian musicians in both Ghana and the diaspora.
Other notable winners are Empress Gifty, who took home the Ultimate Artiste of the Year award, and US-based artists Jay Hover, C-Ben, and Kay Rockz, who received special honours.
The ceremony also paid tribute to legendary Highlife icons Dada KD and Daddy Lumba, while Gyedu-Blay Ambolley was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to Ghanaian music.
The event featured performances from Empress Gifty, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Kofi Kinaata, and comedian OB Amponsah.
