Throughout the six weeks of performances by the contestants, Lasmid was not the contestant that many would have tipped to win.
Kofi Pages and Alibaba were the strongest contestants who gave sterling performances every week and from the love they received from the audience and judges, it was certain that one of them would win the contest. However, on the night, the 'slow but sure' Lasmid took everyone by surprise with his performance; it seemed like he had been saving the best for last.
His energy level and creativity were just spot on and the high marks he got from the judges coupled with votes he gained from the public made him the obvious winner of the competition which this year was themed: "Live Your Wildest Dream."
Lasmid walked away with a GH¢120,000 recording deal and a Solo Headphone from MTN Pulse.
Kofi Pages who had been exceptional throughout the competition came second
Kofi Pages, who took the second position took home a cash prize of GH¢20,000, the third place went to Alibaba and he went home with GH¢15,000 and Nessa who came fourth took home GH¢10,000.
The competition was in two segments; in the first segment, the contestants did covers of songs by their favourite artistes.
Kofi Pages performed Stonebwoy's Bawasaba and he got some good reviews from the judges. The only lady standing, Nessa did a Mash up of Jay Z, Rihanna and Kanye West's Run This Town and John Legend's Glory and it was entertaining.
Nessa, who was the only lady left in the contest came fourth
The man with the crazy punchlines, Alibaba did justice to Jay Dee's Alampkan and as usual he nailed it while Lasmid took Sakodie's Rap Attack song to a whole new level with the way he made it his own and it was excellent.
Alibaba came third
In the second round, the final four performed their own songs and this time around there was a lot of improvement from the previous weeks which made the judges happy.
Judge, Eazzy said, "we are glad you listened to us and have done a lot of homework." Other judge, Richie also added, "I can see a lot of work had gone into this and we are happy."
Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana, Noel Kojo Ganson congratulated the contestants on how far they had come. "MTN is proud of you, we know that your music journey will not end on this platform and we are also ready to support you, our doors are always opened."
MTN Hitmaker Season 8 was hosted by Berla Mundi and saw performances from Hitmaker alum, Mr Drew, Kidi, OV, Krymi and rapper Medikal.
