The Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) has announced a new partnership with the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), a move aimed at enhancing the awards' impact across the energy sector.
The partnership with COMAC will further enrich the competitive process of the award which is designed to be transparent and fair.
The announcement was made by Mr. Henry Teinor, Event Director, GEA at the media launch of the 9th edition of the awards which was held in Accra.
He also expressed gratitude for the continued support from long time partners notably the Ministry of Energy and Green transition.
"The GEA, now in its ninth year, is a platform that honours excellence, leadership, and innovation across Ghana's energy value chain. The awards credibility is upheld by independent validators and an awarding panel that conducts site visitations to ensure the accuracy of submitted information," he said.
The Event Director paid tribute to eight officials who died in a recent helicopter crash, stating that the media launch had been postponed out of respect for the national mourning period.
He also highlighted the awards commitment to recognising the contributions of the individuals and their families.
The Event Director also disclosed the flagship initiatives of GEA notably the Energy Personality Outreach Programme which has empowered over 15,000 Senior High School (SHS) students across Ghana by having awardees interact directly with students, inspiring the next generation of leaders in the energy sector.
Energy companies, personalities and media personnel are expected to win honour in various categories reflecting the various sectors in the energy sector.
The categories include the Energy Personality of the Year, Chief Executive Officer of the Year, Visionary Leadership Award, Outstanding Local Content Initiative of the Year, and the Energy Institution of the Year.
The Non-competitive Award comprises the Osagyefo Young Leadership Award, Women in Energy Excellence, Exemplary Leadership Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.
The panel to scrutinise the nominations and categories is made up of experts from academia, policy, law, clergy and industry.
The panel is chaired by Mr. Kwame Jantuah, a private legal practitioner, other experts includes Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, Dr. Kwame Ampofo, Dr. Jemima Nunoo, and Professor Felix Asante.
