A National Women's Summit and Expo, has come off in Accra, bringing together women entrepreneurs, business leaders, and stakeholders to discuss and address the barriers to growth faced by women in business and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The summit, themed "Overcoming Barriers to Growth of Women in Business and MSMEs," aimed to empower women entrepreneurs and provide a platform for networking, mentorship, and collaboration.
Angela Mensah-Poku, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Ghana, emphasized the importance of empowering women entrepreneurs. "Women are missing out on venture capital markets," she noted, highlighting the need for women to think about scaling their businesses and joining programs that support local enterprises. Ms. Mensah-Poku also stressed the importance of women collaborating and supporting each other, saying, "Women should collaborate, just like men."
Ms. Mensah-Poku also highlighted MTN's commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs, particularly in the informal sector. "We're here to digitally enable our SME base through digital products and also specifically drive products for women entrepreneurs," she explained.
Ms. Mensah-Poku stated that MTN Ghana was collaborating with banks, insurance companies, and the MTN Foundation to offer comprehensive support to women-led SMEs.
She said that the company believed that equipping women with the right resources, would have a positive effect on entire communities, fostering national economic growth.
She disclosed that MTN was set to launch a new product aimed at supporting women on their digital journey, providing access to markets, mentorship, and capability training. This initiative is part of MTN's efforts to empower women entrepreneurs and address the challenges they face in accessing capital and growing their businesses.
During a panel discussion, entrepreneur and show host Deloris Frimpong Manso, shared valuable insights on overcoming barriers to growth. Ms Frimpong Manso emphasized the importance of innovation and urged entrepreneurs to have a dream.
The event was organised by MTN Ghana in collaboration with Geisha Soap and Charter House.
