Workers’ Day: StarLife Assurance Celebrates employees who share career journey stories to inspire others
To commemorate International Workers’ Day, StarLife Assurance, a leading indigenous insurance company in Ghana, has shown a keen interest in the career stories of its workers. The aim is to celebrate their struggles and successes and showcase them as inspirations for others.
Out of the many staff stories received across the country, the stories of two of StarLife Sales Executives, Isaac Boakye from the Mampong Branch and Evans Asare Danso, a Bancassurance Representative at Amenfiman Rural Bank, stood out as incredibly inspiring.
Both workers share a common tale of rising from humble beginnings to climb the ladder of success.
Isaac Boakye, currently a Sales Executive at the Mampong Branch, had a particularly touching story of starting as a mason after high school before working as a cleaner in a financial institution, earning a monthly salary of GHS300.00 five (5) years ago.
Isaac recalls, “I used to earn daily wages as a mason, except for days when I didn’t go to work. However, working as a cleaner in a reputable bank, I only received remunerations at the end of the month, which was GHS300.00.”
Despite earning just GHS300.00 per month, he worked hard and eventually became a Security Personnel at the same bank, bringing his monthly earnings to GHS500.00.
In time, Isaac had the opportunity to work with StarLife Assurance as a Sales Executive. Isaac admits that in the beginning, it was very challenging as he had to move to a new locality, start in the Sales Department, trek for long hours to get new business for the company, and sacrificed extra time and comfort to excel in his new role.
With the support and training he received from StarLife, however, Isaac has surmounted these challenges to progress in his rankings as one of the top Sales Executives within a year of working in the company.
Evans Asare Danso, who described himself as a "hustler," worked as a Security Guard after Senior High School while pursuing higher education through distance learning eight (8) years ago. After completing his studies and serving as a National Service Personnel in a bank, he was introduced to the Bancassurance field by a Manager at the bank. Despite initial worries about working on a commission basis, and the negative perceptions about working in the insurance sector, Evans persevered with the encouragement of his wife and has seen his life improve dramatically since joining StarLife.
“As a poor boy, a guy who slept at the train station when I first moved to Tarkwa and had difficulties feeding himself, it's only through StarLife and the hard work I put in, together with the help of God that has enabled me to achieve all these,” he stated.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of StarLife Assurance, Kakra Duffuor-Nyarko, expressed pride in employees like Isaac and Evans and their inspiring stories when she stated: “We are proud to have persons like Evans and Isaac on our team. We are also very grateful that they were kind enough to share their stories to inspire others. As we celebrate International Workers Day, we strongly believe that acknowledging and hailing these workers for overcoming challenges and achieving success in their career paths will inspire others to strive for excellence.”
“as we celebrate International Workers Day, I wish to congratulate all our hardworking employees for their contribution to the company’s success and encourage them to continue to demonstrate dedication and hard work in their respective roles.”
