We were on a beach in the Bahamas. I felt a sense of wellbeing in this amazingly peaceful place. My toes picked up the pure white sands as I walked along the beach and took in the strikingly deep blue sea waters. It was beautiful. It was amazing. It was an indescribably fantastic feeling.
“Madam, are you okay? I’m done”. I slowly opened my eyes, smiled back at the Allure massage therapist and nodded. “Yes. That was fantastic thank you! Can I have another one?” I replied. She giggled and left the room indicating that I could dress up and join the others in the Rainbow Room.
I wasn’t exactly on a Bahamas beach but it was a similar feeling. I had just had an alluringly heavenly Swedish massage at Allure Spa in the City, Accra.
The call had come the night before. It was from my husband. He’d told me excitingly about how he’d nominated me for the Joy FM mother’s day competition and about how he had just received a phone call from a gentleman called Charles to say his entry was a winning one!
Five deserving mums had been chosen to indulge in the 2010 Joy FM Mothers’ Day pampering session. Having been chauffeured from the Joy FM office that morning to Allure, we were welcomed into a tastefully furnished room (The Rainbow Room) by a fine gentleman called Henry. He is their Spa Manager. We sipped on melon and orange juice as our personal health profiles were taken. A blissful Swedish massage, a facial, a manicure, a pedicure and an Allure goodie bag. I was elated and so were the other mums. We were glowing after this amazing Allure experience.
After taking pictures with Allure and the Joy FM Events Staff, I smiled satisfactorily to myself as we headed toward The African Regent Hotel for lunch. We arrived to good live band music and an array of continental and local dishes. I mused over the menu and decided that the best thing to do was try little bits of different things. And that’s exactly what I did. Bread, salad and prawns for starters. ‘Eto’ with grilled prawns, grilled fish, jollof rice and gravy for mains. Sponge cake, chocolate cake and an unidentifiable sweet mess for desert. Lip smacking delicious.
I was astounded when Charles from Joy FM announced we were heading for the Accra Mall next for a treat from Nallem. Wow! I picked up the heavy parcel I had received from FM Wellness during lunch and headed for the exit. A few minutes later we were at Nallem. We were each handed a GH¢ 200 voucher to shop for whatever we wanted. Like a little girl in a candy store I looked around for about ten minutes and picked up a red top for my husband, a green kaftan and an adoring set of jewellery for myself.
We were back in the air-conditioned bus after about an hour headed back to Joy. Here, Israel Laryeah presented all mums with fresh flowers and a heavy DaViva goodie bag. It was all an overwhelmingly delicious experience. One I won’t forget in a hurry and I owe it all to the Joy FM Events Team.
