I wiped away ‘teardrops’ with my napkin. For the first time in a few months I was laughing so hard my eyes wouldn’t stop watering. It was an unbelievably hilarious moment as guests roared with laughter at the rich act of comedy coming from Funny Face. He had everyone in stitches.
LittleBigSouls had invited Tuface Idibia, Akosua Agyepong, Funny Face, Ejike Asiegbu, Francis Duru, Praize (Fame Academy) and several celebrity friends and patrons to the Launch of LittleBigSouls in Ghana. LittleBigSouls is an international not-for-profit organization incorporated in the UK, US and in Africa. The aim of the organization is a commitment to help reduce the death and disability rates for premature babies born in Africa, to give them a fighting chance in the face of bleak odds.
As we stood up and linked hands to sing ‘Lean on Me’ with Prince, it occurred to me that besides being busy with three jobs and my current project, I could spare a couple of hours each month to do something for this charity. It was a night of love, love and more love and I was engulfed in a labyrinth of emotions as I watched a short video on the plight of premature babies in Ghana and across the world.
The mark of solidarity shown by all these celebrity friends and patrons to LittleBigSouls both at the Pre-Launch the night before and the main Launch was admirable. It was a really fun couple of nights but even Akosua Agyepong’s remarkable performances and Tuface Idibia’s heartwarming renditions of old and new favourites could not take away from the solemn theme.
It was heartbreaking to learn about the terrible statistics of premature babies that die every day from the lack of basic care and the lack of vital life saving equipment. I felt a sense of reassurance that with the launch of a charity like LittleBigSouls, we were on the road to ending this dire situation in Africa and ultimately to the world.
