I glance around and find us a seat. It’s just gone past half-eight and we’ve just driven over from the Osu Food Court after grabbing a sinful pizza that defied all my dieting aspirations. We’re attending the launch of Ophelia Crossland’s new clothing line organised by her husband Kofi Okyere Darko aka KOD.
Seated, I look on enthralled as an adorable light skinned little girl about three years old rocks the catwalk. She is absolutely stunning. Her name is Ohemaa. She’s Ophelia’s inspiration and KOD’s little girl. An ear splitting applause greets her as she continues down the runway seemingly shy of all the attention she’s attracting. ‘Ooohs’ and ‘aaahs’, catcalls and cheers surround her and she loses her way on the catwalk.
Colourfully creative designs for kids from 1-16 years adorn the runway worn by kids who exude so much attitude it leaves many wondering if they are professionals. Judging from all the applause I realize I’m not the only one filled with admiration for Ophelia’s creative pieces.
A familiar voice resonates through the speakers and brings a smile to my face. It’s the acclaimed Queen of the Airwaves, our very own Doreen Andoh of Joy FM, introducing one of my favourite female vocalists – Efya. I have grown to love Efya. She has a breathtakingly amazing voice that is very hard not to like. How such a tiny frame can hold such powerful tunes remains a mystery to me. We clap and sing along to favourites from Efya who is wearing a gorgeous piece from Ophelia. I marvel when Doreen announces that she is also wearing Ophelia and that not only does Crossland put together kids’ clothing, but she does adults’ too.
As the beautiful teenage models take over the runway next to KOD’s music mixes, I identify a couple of pieces that I’d love to wear myself.
Delightfully entertaining Nana Boroo stole the show with his ‘Aha Y3 D3’ single and left guests clapping, laughing and singing to a song that many functions seem to be unable to do without these days. It was a good show and that young man…DC, I think his name was, crowned the show with his freestyle lyrics which left many unsure if it really was a kid under all that gear.
