Former national tennis star and Founder of Hope Performance Tennis Inc., Enoch Godi, has donated tennis equipment worth an estimated $25,000 to several tennis clubs in Accra.
Godi handed over the items, including clothes, shoes, rackets, and nets, to the clubs on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium during the climax of his Hope Tennis Clinic, which took place at the National Tennis Centre.
The beneficiary clubs included Winneba Tennis Club, Accra Stadium Tennis Club, Ashaiman Tennis Club, and Burma Camp Tennis Club.
In an address before the presentation, Godi said his organization decided to hand over the equipment to clubs performing well this year, unlike in previous years when they gave them directly to young players. He explained that in the past, some players collected the equipment but did not use them after the clinic.
Godi further disclosed that the goal of Hope Performance Tennis Inc. is to support children and motivate them to play tennis.
More focus on tennis
In her address, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, appealed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to direct more efforts toward promoting tennis.
She emphasized that the country was currently spending too much money and resources on football, and it was time for the government to promote the development of other sports, such as tennis.
Clinic
Participants at the tennis clinic included children aged between four to 18 years. They were taught the basics of the sport by national tennis coaches, as well as current and past players of the Golden Rackets.
Hope Performance Tennis Inc. held a similar clinic on July 6, 2024, at the KNUST Tennis Court.
