The fourth edition of the McDan Ga-Adangbe Peace and Unity Cup got off to an exciting start today with Chorkor thumping 10-man Dome Kwabenya 4-0 at the McDan La Town Park.

Victory was secured courtesy of a brace by Enoch Aryeetey and late strikes by Man of the Match, Ishmael Nortey, and substitute Shadrach Neequaye. The result means Dome Kwabenya have been eliminated from the competition.

The experienced Chorkor side, featuring many seasoned players including Accra Great Olympics star Christopher Nettey and Albania-based Joseph Ansah, opened the scoring in the third minute when Aryeetey headed in from close range after a brilliant approach play. They came close moments later in the eighth minute when Harris Kwabena Opeele rattled the woodwork with a shot.

However, it was not a one-way affair, with Dome Kwabenya also creating chances, although they were let down by poor finishing in the final third. Back from recess, they were once again caught unawares, with Aryeetey tapping in from close range in the 48th minute.

The game effectively ended as a contest when Dome Kwabenya went down to 10 men after their standout midfielder Adams was red-carded for an off-the-ball incident.

Chorkor then capitalised on their dominance and pressure on the Dome Kwabenya goal late on, with Nortey maintaining his composure to fire into the net after Kalice Otoo's chip came off the bar. Neequaye put a cherry on top of the resounding victory with a precise finish to put Dome Kwabenya out of their misery.

In a post-match interview, Man of the Match Nortey said they were delighted to win their first game and wanted to score even more goals. "We wanted to score more goals so that in the next match our opponents will be scared. For now, our plan is to take it game-by-game as we advance. We have a lot of backup players, so even without our professionals, we will try to win the trophy."

Chorkor coach Aziz Allotey was similarly confident about the possibility of his side winning the trophy, urging his side to be less profligate in front of goal. Dome Kwabenya coach Nii Lankwei Lamptey said he was disappointed with the outcome of the game. He assured that his side would be better for the next edition, while urging the teams remaining in the competition to be better prepared for their games.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee of the McDan Ga-Adangbe Peace and Unity Cup, Jonathan Akrong (below), said he was impressed with the performance of both teams. He expressed gratitude to the Group Chairman of the McDan Group for creating the tournament.

Mr. Akrong further disclosed that plans were far advanced to organise similar events in other regions in the future.

The tournament continues tomorrow (July 14) with a tie between Weija Gbawe and Nima/Maamobi at 4 pm at the McDan La Town Park.
