Online website, BoxingAfrica, has donated assorted food items to the national amateur boxing team, Black Bombers, towards their Olympic Games preparations.
Aside from the food items, which included water, beverage and hot meals, an undisclosed amount of money was presented to the team after their usual training session at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
Bombers’ task
Speaking from his US base last Tuesday, the Chief Executive Officer of BoxingAfrica, Mr Kenneth Bouhairie, called on the Bombers to take advantage of the Olympics platform to win medals for Ghana.
Mr Bouhairie explained that his outfit decided to support the team with the food items to cushion the team as they prepared to depart the country to Tokyo next week.
“This is one of the biggest stages of your amateur career and I expect you to take full advantage of the opportunity to win something big for Ghana.
“In this regard, I decided to make a little donation to help cushion you during your preparations and I hope it serves the purpose,” Bouhairie said.
Motivation
Receiving the donation, the trainer of the Black Bombers, Kwasi Ofori Asare, thanked the leadership of BoxingAfrica and promised that the products and cash would be put to good use to prepare the team adequately for the Olympics.
Asare explained that the gesture would go a long way to motivate the three qualified amateur fighters at the global showpiece.
“We are very grateful for the decision to come to our aid and I am certain the products and money will be put to good use.
“I believe this will serve as a motivation to the boys so that when they achieve something big at the Olympics, they will be rewarded,” he said.
Ghana will be represented by three boxers at the upcoming Olympics, namely: Sulemanu Tetteh, Samuel Takyi and Shakul Samed.
Meanwhile, the Bombers are scheduled to leave for Japan on July 1 to acclimatise to the weather in Tokyo before the commencement of the Games on July 23.
