Tom Lawrence scored in his first appearance at Pride Park since being charged with drink driving as Derby beat Luton in the Championship.
Lawrence was fined six weeks' wages and issued an apology for his part in last month's incident before the game.
The Welsh winger sealed the points for his side with a cross-cum-shot that flew past Luton Town goalkeeper Simon Sluga in the 70th minute.
Lawrence's goal capped a miserable afternoon for Hatters goalkeeper Sluga, who had previously taken his eye off Matty Pearson's 11th-minute back pass to gift Derby the lead.
The own goal was a major setback for the Hatters, but James Collins fired over from inside the six-yard box after being picked out with a low cross by James Bree as they missed a glorious chance to equalise in the 19th minute.
Thereafter Luton struggled to create clear openings, although Ryan Tunnicliffe fired narrowly over just before the hour mark.
Derby offered more of a threat, with Lawrence shooting inches wide at the end of a good Derby move just minutes before his fortuitous goal.
With victory secured, Rams' manager Philip Cocu was able to bring on Andre Wisdom as an 89th-minute substitute- the defender's first appearance since April following injury.
Derby's win, which was only their second in 10 league games, leaves them 13th in the table, with Luton - who are one of only two Championship teams yet to keep a clean sheet this season back in 18th.
Derby County boss Phillip Cocu told BBC Radio Derby:
"To get the win was really important for us. The late equaliser at Barnsley was a big blow after the way we played at Birmingham City.
"To get one now gives a good streak and it was a great team effort. It's something we talked about a lot.
"We have to do it together and I'm glad Tom got his goal today. It helps."
Luton Town boss Graeme Jones told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"The game was a 1-1 or 0-0 game. There's very little difference in shots on or off target.
"We were beaten because of two goalkeeping errors which are basics of the game.
"I've given him my opinion at the end of the game because we've got 13 other boys who give their heart and soul, were mentally and physically really consistent having played three games in seven days."
