Reverend Osei Kofi former player of the senior national team, the Black Stars, has expressed his disappointment in the decision of coach Kwasi Appiah, to strip Asamoah Gyan off the captain’s band, ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt next month.
He said Gyan was more experienced than any other player in the team and deserved to lead the country to tournament.
Gyan retired from the team last Monday, following the decision of the coach to strip him off the arm band.
In an interview with GNA Sports said, “the absence of Gyan would affect the Black Stars because the team would now be more divided, as they are players who might not be happy with the decision”.
He said, the decision of the technical team headed by coach Appiah, means they had no respect for the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who had earlier resolved the difference between Gyan and Andre Ayew.
The 1965 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) third highest scorer added that the team might not perform well at the tournament with the recent developments.
“I doubt if we can win the tournament because we don’t have quality players and the only one we have, has also left,” he added.
