Gyan called out time on his international career on Monday, May 20, after he alleged that he was told by coach Kwesi Appiah to relinquish his captaincy for another person in the team for the AFCON.

In an interview with the GNA Sports, Chibsah said the nature of the retirement was a clear indication that, there was no peace in camp adding that, it could affect the team’s chances at the tournament.

“It is clear that there would be division in the team. Gyan was the captain and Andre Ayew was his deputy, so definitely they would each have their followers.  So the moment issues like this start, you can imagine what could happen,” he said.

The former Kumasi Asante Kotoko player said coach Appiah must find a way to resolve this with his former captain in the best interest of the team.

He warned that if this was not handled well, it would affect the performance of the team at the competition.

“I don’t think it would be best for Kwesi Appiah to respond to the public, but I think it is very necessary for them to resolve this internally so that there will be peace in camp.

“You cannot win AFCON with just quality players or galaxy of stars, but rather the unity in the team is very important. Zambia won the AFCON without a top star in the team but the players were united and committed and so they really fought and won for their nation.
