President J.A. Kufuor has announced the allocation of 500 millions cedis towards the construction of a girls' dormitory for the Akim Swedru Senior Secondary School (SSS), in the Birim South District.
A bus each would be allocated to the Akim Swedru and the Akim Achease Senior Secondary Schools to ease the transportation problem facing the institutions.
President Kufuor announced this when he addressed separate durbars of the chiefs and people of Achease and Swedru on Monday, as part of a tour of the Akim Bosome Traditional area of the Eastern Region.
They followed appeals by the Chief of Achease, Osabarima Gyenin Akenteng and the Akuamuhene of Akim Swedru, Nana Ofosu Asante Kodan.
He announced that 460 million cedis would be released by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to rehabilitate the Achease Local Authority primary school.
President Kufuor in response to their request for a separate district said he would refer the matter to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Statistics Service for advice.
President Kufuor assured the people that the water problem facing the area with assistance from the government of Spain and said the government would discuss the posting of a medical officer and improving infrastructure at the clinic and technical institute at Akim Swedru with the Catholic Church.
He said the road network would be rehabilitated and an assessment conducted for the possible re-awarding of the contract of contractors who were not performing.
The President said that the government would provide accommodation for the Police at Achease as part of the general improvement in the working conditions of the Service and commended the people for housing the personnel for so long.
President Kufuor urged the people to embrace the President's Special Initiative on oil palm to increase production to earn more foreign exchange.
He also made whistle-stops at Akim Awisa, Akim Oda and Asene and addressed enthusiastic crowds.
Mr Felix Owusu Adjapong, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and MP for the area, Mr Yaw Osafo-Marfo, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Yaw Barimah, Minister of Manpower Development and Employment, Dr Francis Osafo-Mensah, Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Gustav Narh Dometey, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister and the Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Adi Amkamah accompanied the President.
