Mr. Ashim Morton, founder of the Millennium Marathon, has said the lucky winner of a special raffle for this year’s edition of the marathon, would win a brand new Nissan Kicks Suv.
Mr. Morton revealed this at the launch of the fourth edition of the Millennium Marathon at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on Thursday. The founder said, aside the lucky raffle winner driving home the car, there were other prizes for the first three finishers in the 21k race.
According to him, 20,000 participants across the World are expected to partake in the yearly event slated for September 22. The Millennium Marathon is an annual event aimed at promoting long distance running as part of efforts to develop world class runners from Ghana, keeping a healthy body and also to project the country to the world.
He urged the Millennium Marathon Ambassadors to promote the race and encourage widespread local publicity for a healthy lifestyle, since it encourages the sustainable development goals of the United Nations (UN).
As part of the Millennium Marathon Sports Ltd quest to support sports in the country, Mr. Morton presented a cheque for GH¢10,000.00 to the Ministry
of Youth & Sports towards sports development in Ghana.
He called on corporate Ghana to emulate the gesture and render their unflinching support to develop the various disciplines in the country.
Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Technical Director at the Ministry of Youth & Sports who received the cheque on behalf of the Youth and Sports Minister, Mr. Isaac Asiamah, commended the Millennium Marathon Sports Ltd for their contribution to sports.
The Millennium Marathon is run by a multinational board; comprising seasoned marathon runners, former athletes, and two-time Olympic Champion and marathon legend, Haile Gebreselassie of Ethiopia.
The Millennium Marathon 21k race course is an AIMS certified half marathon course with close to 15,000 participants and a 5k race for social, lifestyle, corporate, keep Fit and fun runners.
