Nigeria’s Super Seven FC defeated Team Multimedia 3-1 at the Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra, to book a ticket to represent West Africa in the Standard Charted’s (SC) Road to Anfield tournament, in May, this year.
Team Multimedia played against winners from Nigeria and Cameroon. Ghana defeated Cameroon 3-0 in their first game, but lost the finals to Nigeria Super Seven in a keenly contested match.
The Standard Chartered Trophy 2017 Tournament, is an international 5-aside football tournament that provides local markets with a platform to actively engage its clients, staff and stakeholders.
It was hinged on the Bank’s sponsorship of Liverpool FC. Winners of competitions in the various markets will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Anfield, the home of Liverpool FC, to join seven other markets from around the globe to play in the final tournament to determine the winner in a particular year.
The Super Seven FC will represent West African against countries from East and Southern African regions in a ten-team tournament.
The Head of Corporate Affairs, Brands & Marketing, Asiedua Addae expressed disappointment over Team Multimedia’s failure to clinch the title. However, she commended the winners for their splendid display and tasked them to emerge winners in the final competition in Anfield. She said “we do wish Team Nigeria all the best and hope they win the final trophy”. Kenya won the last edition held in Anfield.
