The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District Chief Executive (DCE), Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah has said discipline and hard work are key to success.
Mrs Aboah said this at a parade of school children to mark the 54th Independence Anniversary celebration at Breman Asikuma on Sunday.
The Celebration under the Theme “Discipline and Hard-Work, Essential Pre-requisite for a better Ghana”, was graced by a large crowd of people, including Chiefs, Assembly members and members of civil society groups in the area.
Mrs Aboah said most countries that were developed achieved that status as a result of hard work and sacrifice by the citizens, adding that “no country can survive if her citizens
are not disciplined and lazy”.
She therefore called for unity among Ghanaians and asked them to embrace hard work and also rekindle their communal labour spirit.
The DCE appealed to the youth to respect their parents and the elderly in the society and also take their studies seriously to enable them to succeed in life.
The DCE said the government under the leadership of President John Atta Mills, had fulfilled about 80 per cent of the campaign promises made to Ghanaians.
She mentioned some of the fulfilled promised as the provision of massive educational infrastructure, supply of free exercise books, free uniforms, increases in the capitation grant and school feeding programmes.
The DCE said the government was gradually eliminating schools under trees and the shift system.
Mrs Aboah therefore appealed to people in the area to let discipline and hardwork be their guide towards the development of the nation.
Similar parades were held at Odoben and Brakwa.
