The absence of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament during the Finance Minister’s presentation has sparked criticism from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who accused them of neglecting their parliamentary duties in favour of seeking positions in government at the Jubilee House.
Raising concerns on the floor of Parliament, Mr Afenyo-Markin expressed disappointment over what he described as a recurring trend of NDC MPs only showing up on ceremonial occasions, while failing to engage in legislative proceedings.
He stated, "Mr Speaker, this morning, they populated the chamber. All of a sudden, they are all out—empty seats. And this is the time that the Finance Minister is here to lay a paper. Look at the empty seats".
"They’ve left again, going to look for jobs at the Jubilee House. They should come to the chamber of Parliament and work. Look at all the empty seats. You are 38 in number—ceremonial majority, ceremonial majority," he remarked.
Afenyo-Markin argued that the absence of the NDC MPs was not an isolated incident, stressing that their inconsistent presence in Parliament raised concerns about their commitment to governance and accountability.
