The Parliamentary Candidate-elect for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming Akwatia Constituency by-election, Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq., has officially launched his campaign ahead of the September 2 polls.
Mr. Baidoo, joined by constituency party leadership, including the Constituency Chairman and members of the Council of Elders, began his campaign with a courtesy visit to the residence of former Member of Parliament for the area, Henry Boakye Yiadom, popularly known as Okoyo. The move was part of efforts to reconcile differences, unify the party base, and court support from Okoyo and his followers.
According to party leadership, although Sunday’s primaries were a constitutionally mandated democratic process that allowed delegates to elect their preferred candidate, there may be a few aggrieved supporters who wished their candidates had won. As a result, the party is swiftly initiating reconciliation and strategic planning to ensure unity and boost its chances of reclaiming the seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Former MP, Henry Boakye Yiadom, who had earlier pledged in an interview with Citi News to support whoever emerged victorious in the primaries, welcomed the NDC candidate and reiterated his commitment to working with all party faithful to help wrestle the seat from the NPP.
Citi News has also confirmed that efforts are underway to reach out to the other contender, Rasmus Koneh Ali, popularly known as Asanka Poyooyo and his supporters. Both Asanka Poyooyo and Okoyo are expected to play key leadership roles in the campaign of Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq. as he prepares to face the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu on September 2, 2025.
