He said Ghanaians in 2016 voted to put the destiny of the country in the wrong hands, a decision that had come biting them hard.

Mr Adongo, the Deputy Ranking Member on the Finance Committee of Parliament, noted that it would take decades for the country’s economic reputation and credibility to be rebuilt and the electorate must not miss the opportunity to vote the government out of power in 2024.

“By the time this government leaves office, you and I will have a very difficult task to rebuild this country and as a matter of fact, we must start the independence struggle of our economy right now.

“The 2024 elections will not be a contest between the National Demo­cratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but Ghanaians rescuing our country from people who want to destroy it and we must rescue this country from them.

 “Ghana is in dire straits because the debt restructuring is going to be a painful exercise and will take us decades to rebuild our reputation and credibility and I dare say the country voted to put our destiny in the wrong hands,” Mr Adongo stressed.

The second term lawmaker made these known on the floor of Parlia­ment yesterday when he took his turn to debate the content of the message on the State of the Nation Address by the president.

President Akufo-Addo in his message, despite acknowledging the difficulties the economy finds itself in, touted his government for deliver­ing on its mandate to make the living condition of Ghanaians better.

The President indicated that his government had been prudent in the utilisation of resources available to it in the areas of roads, health, trans­portation, communication, the fight against corruption amongst others.

However, Mr Adongo insisted that the President had lost touch with the electorate and the realities on the ground and intimated that the Presi­dent and the government’s.
