A private hospital in Kenya's capital Nairobi has halted Covid-19 vaccination citing lack of supplies, despite the government having more than one million doses.
The Aga Khan Hospital announced it would resume vaccination once it gets more supplies from the government.
The health ministry on Tuesday said only 130,575 people had been vaccinated countrywide so far, with 806,000 dosses distributed out of the 1.12 million available.
This came as a private facility began charging for vaccination with the Russian Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine, whose use and distribution the government had cautioned against.
The Kenyan government has approved the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
The Russian embassy in Kenya on Monday distanced itself from the importation of the Sputnik V vaccine.
