Honourable Mary Boatemaa Marfo, the District Chief Executive for Sekyere East District, has embarked on a district-wide tour to explain government policies and programmes to the people in the local communities.
The tour is also to create a platform for the DCE and heads of government departments, who are accompanying her, to interact with the people and explain various bye-laws of the assembly and development initiatives being implemented to improve on the socio-economic conditions of the people.
Madam Marfo, speaking at the commencement of the tour at Brofoyedu, said the visit was to facilitate positive civic engagement between the local people and the local government officials in the district.
She said the government flagship programmes such as the Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development, One District – One Factory, among others, required the knowledge and understanding of the local people to enable them participate actively to ensure successful implementation and sustainability.
The DCE said communicating directly to the people on key bye-laws and local plans and programmes of the District Assembly was crucial to facilitate cooperation from the local people to promote acceptance and ownership of such programmes.
Hon. Boatemaa Marfo added that assessing and prioritising the needs of the people in the various local communities in order to meet their needs and expectations promoted inclusiveness in local governance and participation.
She also called for an effective collaboration between all stakeholders in order to promote civic education and citizenship participation and involvement in communal activities to enhance development in the local communities.
