Many in the Sunyani municipality say they want the government to focus more effort on revamping the nation’s agriculture sector.People, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said they were eager to see substantial investment in the sector to drive the growth of the economy.
They were sharing their opinion on the maiden state of the nation address by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. A vibrant agriculture sector, they noted, would be vital to the success of the “one-district, one factory” policy – to create jobs and wealth for the population.
Madam Juliana Kyeremaa, a dressmaker, asked that the government encouraged investors to go into poultry industry. That could help not only to bring down the import bill but ensure that there were enough chicken and eggs to support the school feeding programme.
Mr. Clement Amponsah, a tomato farmer, said he was upset that the President did not say anything about building food storage facilities. He pointed out that without these foodstuff and vegetables would continue to perish at the farm-gates, a disincentive to farming.
Mr. Amponsah said food storage facilities at designated centres across the country and the establishment of agro-processing industries needed to receive priority attention.
