The purpose is to build the capacity of the female candidates to understand the Constitutional Instrument (C.I. 94) which governs the conduct of the 2016 elections so that they could effectively participate in the electoral process.

The sensitization of the women parliamentary candidates on the electoral process is part of the EC/European Union (EU) Election Project 2016. Hajia Sa-Adatu Maida, the EC Commissioner in charge of the Upper West Region, who took the candidates through the provisions in the C.I. 94, urged them to get copies and make it a habit to read it regularly to be better informed.

She said the C.I. 94 clearly explains all the rules, regulations and offences about the elections and that a candidate who was quite acquainted with it would be able to make good use of it when faced with any challenge. On the elections, Hajia Sa-Adatu said the notice of poll for the parliamentary was out and that very soon the Presidential one would also be out.

She said the Commission would make available in each polling station two biometric devices to forestall some of the challenges that come with breakdown of the devices. The EC Commissioner for Upper West Region expressed disappointment at the low number of women contesting this year's election in the region.

She said gradually, Ghana was trying to give women a space in governance and that it is evident within the EC which has five women out of the seven members of the Commission. Hajia Sa-Adatu called on women to build their capacity in order that they position themselves properly to take advantage of the opportunity. She said the Commission was ready to deliver a free, fair and transparent elections come December 7 and called for the support of all Ghanaians to enable the Commission achieve that.

Hajia Alijata Sulemana, incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Sissala East Constituency and candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Madam Abiba Fidelia Mohammed, candidate for the Convention People's Party (CPP) are contesting the Sissala East Constituency Parliamentary seat.

The other is Madam Jacqueline Paalee, All People's Congress (APC) Parliamentary candidate for the Jirapa Constituency.
