The final edition of this year's 'Tigo Day Out' took place at the De Masters Academy, Ashaiman on Wednesday, November 28,2012.
The employee-driven, CSR Intervention was organized in collaboration with Safe Child-Ghana, an NGO devoted to inculcating safety practices among children and the youth.
'Tigo Day Out' affords employees of the company the opportunity to connect with the community in which it operates through sustained interaction and mentorship schemes with identified groupings. The theme of the day's activity was "Stop Bullying."
A 15-member team from Tigo including Ebenezer Essilfie, Head of Supply Chain and Deborah Akakpo, CSR Manager, visited the school. Recounting the challenges he went through while growing up in the hinterlands of the western region, Ebenezer Essilfie deplored bullying both at home and in school. He particularly admonished older children not to bully their siblings but to help them in their development.
He also encouraged the children to apply themselves to their studies since that is a sure way to secure and fulfill their future dreams and aspirations."
The children had an opportunity to watch a video on bullying after which they took turns to recount their own experiences. All the children were unanimous in declaring that, bullying must stop. In her remarks, the CSR Manager, Deborah Akakpo revealed that Tigo was committed to the society in which it operates. She said: "Tigo, as a business and a caring brand is devoted to supporting initiatives that improve lives, with particular focus children, since they are our only and surest way to securing the future of our community. Tigo also used the occasion to present special packages containing branded school bags, exercise books, pens and wrist bands to fifty children who have been exemplary in observing safety procedures throughout the year.
