The University of Education, Winneba, has launched Campaign Plant and Endowment Trust Fund to improve its infrastructure and other facilities and programmes.
The Chancellor, Alhaji Asoma Banda, jointly launched the two programmes in Winneba.
He said the purpose of the Campaign Plan is to create a heightened awareness about the University among the public and position it for enhanced resource mobilization for academic and other activities outlined in the Corporate Strategic Plan.
"It is hoped that by the end of the Campaign, funds totaling 26,880.000 Ghana Cedis would have been mobilized to feed the Endowment Trust Fund between October and September 2017," he said.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, said government subvention to the university had increased but a lot of it goes to personal emolument, leaving about four percent for other activities.
He said five years ago, the University realized the need to embark on a vigorous fundraising programme and this had yielded good results.
Professor Asabere-Ameyaw said UEW Endowment Trust Fund would be used to promote research, teaching and outreach programmes.
An amount of Ghc129, 657 in the form of cash, cheques and pledges was realized at the launch.
