UT Bank on Thursday launched its Annual Pledge Pink Campaign to raise funds and create awareness about the prevention and management of Breast Cancer in the country.
The campaign is one of UT bank's flagship social intervention projects and activities such as Walk and a Pink Ball lined up to create public awareness and generate funds to support the bank’s breast cancer project.
The Pledge Pink Campaign was instituted by UT Bank three years ago to coincide with the global commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness every October to support relevant organisations such as the Cancer Society of Ghana and other partners to bridge the information gap and dispel misconceptions about the disease through awareness creation.
Breast Cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women, claiming almost half a million lives every year. Studies indicate that about six per cent of Ghanaian women diagnosed with breast cancer have the most aggressive triple negative type, which put them at greater risk.
Available information indicates that women diagnosed with the disease are below the ages of 50 with 11 per cent having a positive family history of the cancer.
Speaking at the launch Mrs Pearl Esua Mensah, Deputy Managing Director UT Bank, said this year campaign aimed to raise GH¢ 150,000 to complete paying for the van as well as to continue to promote public awareness of the disease.
"Our aim for this year is to provide hope and be able to save more lives through promoting screening for early detection," she said.
Last year, the bank raised GH¢ 80,000 which went into a deposit for a mobile screening van for pre-screening of the disease and to support the treatment of 80 disadvantaged women suffering from the ailment.
Mrs Esua Mensah urged members of the public to donate to the campaign to touch lives and support efforts to raise awareness about the disease.
