The Mampong branch of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), recorded 87 motor accidents between January and November this year, as compared to 73 accidents the same period in 2008.
DSP Benjamin Gyasi, the MTTU Divisional Commander disclosed this on Wednesday, during interaction between the police and Transport Unions at Mampong, to discuss on ways of reducing road accidents as well as the enforcement of Road Traffic Regulations at Mampong and its environs.
The meeting was attended by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Cooperative Transport Society and the Progressive Road Transport Association (PROTOA) DSP Gyasi attributed the accidents to excessive speeding, wrong over-taking, fatigue and over-loading.
Chief Superintendent Edward Oduro Kwateng, the Divisional commander advised the drivers to be careful with passengers luggage, as some may
contain illegal goods.
Mr Daniel Appau Ohyeaman, Mampong Municipal Chief Executive said plans were far advanced for vehicles in the Municipality to be given stickers for easy identification next year.
He advised drivers to maintain discipline and avoid accidents during the Christmas and the New Year festivities.
