The Asamankese Circuit Court has convicted a bank cashier, Andrews Asiamah, for stealing GHC12,501, belonging to his employers, the Kwaebibirem Rural Bank.
Asiamah, who pleaded not guilty, would receive his sentence on December 16.
The case of the prosecution as presented by Police Inspector Francis Asare-Cobbina was that Asiamah was formerly a cashier of the bank's agency
at Pramkese.
He said between July and September last year, it was detected, during an internal auditing, that Asiamah had falsified the accounts of some customers and had also fictitiously advanced some loans to himself and succeeded in withdrawing an amount of GHC 12,501 from the bank.
During interrogation, he initially denied the offence, but later admitted it before the Board of Directors.
Asiamah promised to refund the money and was granted police enquiry bail.
He has since refunded an amount of GHC 3,000
