A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded Baaba Issa, a taxi driver into prison custody for stealing a cheque valued at GH¢1000 belonging to Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom also known as "Prophet One", Founder, Ebenezer Miracle Church at Ahenema Kokobeng in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of Ashanti.
Baaba Issa pleaded guilty to the charge and would reappear before the Court on June 8, 2009.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Nana Fosu told the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that on May 20, this year, a member of the church also a witness in the case issued the cheque to be cashed at the National Investment Bank (NIB).
He said the complainant gave it to one of his pastors to cash it for him the next day.
On his way home, the pastor boarded the taxi cab driven by the accused with registration number GT 5045 G and got down along the road to buy something leaving his bag in the vehicle.
Prosecution said he came back to join the taxi and later realized the cheque was missing when he got home.
According to Prosecution, he informed prophet Adarkwa who also alerted the Bank and when Issa went to cash the cheque he was arrested and handed over to the police.
