Mr Emmanuel T. Attah, Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, said meaningful development could be achieved only when there was peace.
He said peace played a vital rle in man's life adding "as people we should allow peace and tranquillity to lead us in all endeavours".
Mr Attah was speaking at a socialization meeting of the University of Education branch of the Kasena Nakana Students Union (KANASU) at Winneba.
It was under the theme; "Ensuring Peaceful Elections, the Role of the Tertiary Student."
Mr Attah emphasized that Ghanaians should eschew acts that could bring violence which could destabilize the peace the country enjoyed.
He said if the electorate would see themselves as one people with common aims then students had a roll to play to ensure peaceful elections.
Mr Attah said students should use their reach experiences to sensitize their families and friends to go about their political activities in a peaceful manner.
Mrs Doris Apangao, President of the Union said the meeting was to formerly usher new members into the union.
She said it was also to share ideas to chart a new development course and correct all indifferences within the union.
Mrs Apangao said accommodation was still a problem that students faced and appealed for assistance to help address it.
She said the union would contribute its part to ensuring peaceful elections in December and urged the various presidential and parliamentary candidates to make the union part of their peace train.
Mrs Apangao commended Mr Joseph Kofi Adda, Member of Parliament (MP) for Navrongo Central and Mr Abugah Pele, MP for Chiana Paga for donating a computer and its accessories to the union.
Mr Abugah Pele and Mr Mark Woyongo National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Navorongo Central jointly donated 500 Ghana cedis to support the students to purchase their traditional costumes.
Other speakers were Dr. C.W.K. Meraku, Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel C. Akuna, Director, Grains Development Board, Central Region, and Mr. Dominic Asabia, Director of National Sports College, Winneba.
