The Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) is seeking to partner with the National Service Scheme (NSS) to facilitate the training and professional development of graduates in the surveying profession.
The partnership will ensure that students who studied surveying were well-equipped for the job market through their national service period and training.
This follows discussions between the President and Executive Committee members of the GhIS and authorities of the NSS towards enhancing the professional development of surveying students across the country.
The engagement was held when the GhIS President paid a courtesy on authorities of the NSS.
This comes on the back of the NSS's intended transition from a Scheme to an Authority that will not only deploy graduates for national service, but train and equip them for the job market.
The meeting focused on two critical issues - the deployment of GhIS student members from recognised tertiary institutions into suitable training organisations and exploring potential collaborations between the institution and NSS.
Dr. Anthony Arko Adjei, President of the GhIS, said the aim was to ensure that students gained practical knowledge in the field of surveying, which was essential for their growth and future careers.
"By working closely with the NSS, we believe we can facilitate placements that are not only beneficial for the students but also for the organisations that will host them," he added.
He said the partnership could lead to mutual benefits, enhancing the quality of training and professional readiness for surveving graduates.
Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, welcomed the initiative, saying, they recognised the importance of practical training in shaping competent professionals.
"We are committed to supporting the development of our youth and ensuring they have the necessary skills to thrive in their respective fields," he said.
He added that the Collaboration would pave way for the creation of a more structured approach to training and deployment.
