The BP Global STEM Academics is a scholarship program aimed at high school students, to help them build critical science and tech skills along with key global and intercultural competencies.
The scholarship program also seeks to address the gender gap in STEM fields by investing in education and providing participants with the encouragement, community, and confidence to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Speaking at the UNESCO International Day of Women and Girls in Science under the theme “Investing in Women and Girls in Science for Inclusive Green Growth, Mrs. Diana Sey, Partner Director, AFS Ghana revealed. “Last summer, 100 teens from eight countries participated in the BP Global STEM Academies hosted by AFS Organizations in three countries: Brazil, Egypt, and the USA. This year, more than 500 students from over 35 countries are expected to participate in a variety of life-changing Global Prep programs. We are so excited that this year, 10 students from Ghana will join their counterparts from the rest of the world in this life-changing opportunity”

According to the post-program assessment, students gained a greater understanding of these two areas: how culture influences their perception of the world and what culture means to them. The teens also revealed that they developed a deeper concern for the values and realities of others.

This year, more than 500 students from over 35 countries are expected to participate in a variety of life-changing Global Prep programs. Gearing up for the third year, the four-week experience is expected to offer a combination of hands-on learning, classroom lessons taught by experts in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and other subjects.
