The Ghana Army of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has celebrated its annual West African Security Services Association (WASSA) event with a call on the soldiers to remain professionally disciplined as Ghana enters into general election next year.
WASSA is an annual event on the military calendar that is used to climax annual activities for the year and to acknowledge the deserving hardworking soldiers and civilian staffs.
Speaking at the ceremony, which was held at the Army Headquarters in Accra, Brigadier General Mike Ayisi Amoah who spoke on behalf of Major General William Azure Ayamdor, the Chief of the Army Staff said, despite some challenges, the Army were able to achieve their set goals and also contributed to the nation's security.
Brig. Gen. Amoah urged the soldiers to remain cautioned and neutral within the confines of the constitution of the republic and abide by the rules and regulations that governed their profession.
"We shall continue with our internal security operations and also prepare ourselves for the operational duties that mandates us to ensure the security of elections in 2020.
I am certain that we will play our civic roles constructively to promote our democracy before during and after the 2020 general election," he said.
He however, challenged all Commands to engage in training activities to achieve the optimum stage of regiment.
Major General KA Abdulai, the Guest of Honour for the occasion said, the Ghana Army's overall improvement guaranteed a stable national environment that created a congenial atmosphere for national peace and development.
"We are all witnesses to your cooperation with the Civil Police and other security agencies in operations such as Conquered Fist and Koudanlglou lll which aimed at curbing terrorism and criminal activities at northern borders", he said.
The Major General commended the Military High Command, Officers, gallant men and women and also urged them to consolidate the wonderful gains they achieved in internal operations.
