Such destructive acts, he stated would not be countenanced by government and persons found to be culpable, would be ruthlessly dealt with by law.

The pylon transmits power from generation power stations including Karpower and AKSA to the national grid.

Mr Amewu, who was speaking to Journalists after touring the site to have a first-hand information on Monday, described the act as complete sabotage since, it could have a severe impact on power transmission.

He said, "It baffles my mind how anybody will engage in such an unpatriotic act. Any political party that will have some element of association with such activity is not worth belonging to. We cannot subject the country to do this, because of any agenda of some few persons".

"We have detected that the same chemical had been rubbed around the bolts and nuts of all the towers along these lines. The intention is to pull all these lines down. I can assure you an investigation is ongoing and a committee has been set to fish out the culprits".

Mr Jonathan Amoako - Baah, the Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCo said the lines were very important because it supplied power to Accra and Tema.

He explained that: "The chemical is corrosive so when it is applied, it loosened the bolts and nuts". 

Mr Amoako-Baah assured that security around the towers would be strengthened to ensure the safety of the power lines.

Already, he said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service visited the scene in the morning and had commenced an investigation into the hacked down of a pylon.
